Brookhaven National Laboratory
Chemistry Department (Upton, NY USA)
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is localized on Long Island (USA). The Laboratory is one of ten national laboratories operated under Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science. BNL was established in 1947 in order to promote basic research in the physical, chemical, biological and engineering aspects of the atomic sciences. An equally important concept was the establishment of a national laboratory in the Northeast to design, construct and operate large scientific machines that individual institutions could not afford to develop on their own.
After several decades BNL is one of the leading scientific laboratory all over the word. Its outstanding mix of a machine- and mind-power has six times produced research deemed worthy of the greatest honor in science: the Nobel Prize.
BNL has been a home for three research reactors and numerous one-of-a-kind particle accelerators. Developed by Brookhaven chemists Laser-Electron Accelerator Facility (LEAF) is an unique accelerator coupled with a pulse radiolysis system with time resolution in range of picoseconds. Collaboration with eminent scientists of this facility allows us to look inside chemical reaction and physical processes occurring on very short time scales.
